Best Observation Decks in Istanbul

A ranked guide to Istanbul observation decks and panoramic viewpoints, from the tallest tower to historic rooftops.

Çamlıca Tower — the highest public view

At roughly 365 metres tall on a 260-metre hill, Çamlıca Tower is the highest publicly accessible viewpoint in Istanbul. The enclosed decks make it a reliable choice in any weather, and the view covers both the European and Asian sides of the city.

Galata Tower — old-city intimacy

Galata Tower is smaller and older, but its balcony puts you among the rooftops of Beyoğlu with the Golden Horn at your feet. The narrow walkway means queues move slowly, so go early in the morning.

Rooftop terraces and hilltop parks

  • Çamlıca Hill park — the same district as the tower, open air and free
  • Karaköy rooftop bars — skyline views with a drink, mostly west-facing
  • Pierre Loti Hill in Eyüp — the Golden Horn at sunset
  • Süleymaniye Mosque terrace — free and one of the best old-city panoramas

How to choose

If you want scale and weather protection, choose Çamlıca Tower. If you want historic atmosphere and proximity to Sultanahmet, choose Galata Tower. Pair one high viewpoint with one water-level spot for the fullest picture of Istanbul.
