What to book in advance
Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace and the Basilica Cistern all draw long queues in high season, and timed entry saves the most time of any booking you will make in Istanbul. Cruises and day trips are more flexible, but sunset departures sell out.
A sensible three-day shape
- Day one: Sultanahmet monuments on foot
- Day two: Bosphorus cruise plus Dolmabahçe or Galata Tower
- Day three: the Asian side — Üsküdar, Kadıköy and Çamlıca Tower for sunset
