Almost every journey ends the same way: reach the M5 metro at Bulgurlu, then take a short taxi or local bus up to the entrance. The climb is steep and there is no comfortable walking route from the metro, so budget for that last leg.

• An Istanbulkart covers metro, Marmaray, ferries and buses and is worth buying on arrival.
• Crossing by ferry from Eminönü or Kabataş to Üsküdar is often faster than a road crossing at rush hour, and far more scenic.
